Temporary Accountant

22.8 hours per week across 3 days

Position Summary

The purpose of the Accountant role is to provide day to day finance operations for the organisation and to backfill the Assistant Accountant (Payroll) duties as required.


The Accountant will work collaboratively with finance team members, managers and senior staff to achieve budget outcomes across the organisation.

 

Key Responsibilities and Duties

The Accountant holds a key role within the Finance team with the following major responsibilities:

·       Preparation of MYOB data for monthly financial reporting

·       Preparation and lodgment of quarterly Business Activity Statements

·       Completion of monthly bank reconciliations

·       Ensuring accounts receivable and payable are recorded and monitored in MYOB

·       Monitoring Aged Receivables

·       Submission of monthly NDIS Plan Management billing

·       Compliance Monitoring

·       Assistance with development of operational budgets


Organisational Responsibilities:

 General

·       Operate in alignment with the purpose, objectives, policies, and procedures of Belong Blue Mountains

·       Compliance with all relevant organisational policies, procedures, and applicable legislation

·       Participation in staff meetings and sector-relevant community forums as required

·       Fulfilling any other duties reasonably required to support the organisation’s goals

 

Risk Management & Work Health and Safety (WHS) Responsibilities

·       Compliance with Belong BM’s WHS policies, procedures, and the WHS Act

·       Participation in required WHS training and orientation

·       Prompt reporting of safety risks, incidents, and hazards using established procedures and systems

·       Active contribution to maintaining a safe work environment for all stakeholders

·       Fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement across teams and services

 

Organisational & Team Responsibilities

·       Build and maintain collaborative, respectful working relationships across staff, contractors, and partners

·       Actively participate in meetings, training, and professional development

·       Contribute to policy development, organisational improvement, and information sharing

·       Prepare reports, briefs, and documentation as required by Belong BM management

·       Uphold Belong BM’s values, including social justice, confidentiality, EEO, WHS, and grievance procedures

·       Report concerns or risks that may impact staff, clients, or the organisation’s reputation

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

·       Belong Blue Mountains has a smoke-free environment, across all work sites and in all fleet vehicles

·       This position requires you to complete the home safety checklist and assessment process for Belong BM to enable working from home

 


 

Qualifications and Skills

 Qualifications:

·       Relevant tertiary qualifications


Skill Requirements:

·       Sound knowledge of MYOB, including MYOB Payroll

·       High level competency in computerised accounting software

·       High level competency using Excel spreadsheets

·       High level verbal and written communication skills

 

Essential Criteria

·       Relevant tertiary qualification

·       All Skill Requirements as listed above

·       Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in a similar role

·       Ability to work individually or as part of a team

·       Demonstrated ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality of information

·       NDIS Worker Screening Check or willingness to obtain same


Desirable Criteria

·       Experience working for a not-for-profit, community-based organisation
