DOMESTIC ASSISTANCE & TRANSPORT
The Blue Mountains Community Support Program aims to support and enhance the quality of life for frail older people, and their carers, by providing domestic assistance and transport services so they can remain independent in their own homes for as long as possible.
What is the Domestic Assistance Service?
We provide a domestic assistance service tailored to help maintain your independence at home through assistance with housework and cleaning. We are also able to offer an accompanied or unaccompanied shopping service. Both of these services are provided by trained staff. The service is designed for people who are willing and able to provide direction and self-manage their care.
Domestic assistance is offered on a fortnightly basis at a subsidised cost of $6.50 per hour.
What is the Transport Service?
PLEASE NOTE: THIS SERVICE IS TEMPORARILY SUSPENDED DUE TO COVID-19.
The Transport services provided by the Blue Mountains Community Support Program are for people who are involved in social support groups, social activities, or other programs run by our Neighbourhood Centres to enable them to access these activities and maintain a connection to their community.
Transport options for clients include subsidised taxis, transport using vehicles owned by partner organisations, transport by volunteers of Neighbourhood Centres using their vehicles, and subsidised bus trips for social group events.
Who can access these Services?
The Community Support Program services are available for people who are:
- frail and over the age of 65 (or over 50 for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander) and living at home and not in receipt of a Home Care Package
- caring for a frail older person
- assessed as eligible for domestic assistance and transport by My Aged Care
To use this service you must have a valid referral code or direct referral from My Aged Care.
How does the Service work?
Contact us (details below) and ask about being referred to the domestic assistance or transport service.
For Domestic Assistance we will arrange to do a home assessment to identify your individual needs and goals. When using this service you can expect privacy, respect and confidentiality. You will need to make sure you are home on the days of your workers’ visits, give at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel, advise of any changes as soon as possible, and ask questions if you have any concerns.
