Social Support Coordinator

Permanent Part-Time - 24hrs per week up to 35hrs per week

SCHADS Award Level 3. Applications close 15 September at 5pm.


This position provides social support and coordination for participants aged 65 years and older both individually and within group settings facilitating connection with family, friends and the community. Focus is on reducing loneliness and isolation for people living at home or in residential aged care facilities. This role works closely with volunteers and carers.


This position will be based at one of three Belong Blue Mountains Neighbourhood Centres in Blaxland, Lawson or Katoomba. 


Selection Criteria


Essential Qualifications

Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, eligible for membership of the AASW or other relevant welfare, health, community services, social science or related fields (acceptance pending confirmation of qualification completion within 3-6 months)

 

Essential Skills and additional Requirements

  1. Demonstrated ability to show respect and empathy for, and work to support the diverse needs and aspirations of all participants, their carers, and volunteers.

  2. Demonstrated good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, and the ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders.

  3. Ability to prioritise work tasks and apply initiative.

  4. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  5. Ability to work with volunteers.

  6. Competent computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, email/internet, database).

  7. Proof of Full COVID 19 vaccination status ( 2 vaccines and a booster)

 

Desired but not essential Experience

  1. Working in the community sector.

 

Essential Knowledge Requirements

  1. Understanding of social support and respite services, and in particular for frail older people.

  2. Understanding of client-directed approaches to care, goal setting and personal choice.
