This year Blue Fringe will give more people the opportunity to explore their creativity and improve their mental wellbeing by offering a program of workshops and events leading up to, and during, the Blue Fringe Festival in October 2021.

Please join us and join in the celebration of creativity for wellbeing!

   WHAT'S ON

9:30am-12:30pm Saturday 29th May 2021
Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, Katoomba

Poetry is a wonderful way of expressing emotions, and of giving expression to those moments in life when you experience a profound internal change. With its musicality and freedom of form, writing poetry can have a healing effect and can contribute to mental wellbeing. This half-day workshop is aimed at young people of high school age up to 25 years and includes on-the-spot writing exercises as well as discussions about creativity and wellbeing. You do not have to have any experience in writing poetry – just an enthusiasm for expressing yourself in words.

Vanessa Kirkpatrick is an award-winning poet and writer. Her first poetry collection, To Catch the Light, won the John Knight Poetry Manuscript Prize and was commended for the Anne Elder Award. Her second collection, The Conversation of Trees, was published in 2017. She has a PhD in English literature and is an experienced teacher and creative writing mentor.

The workshop is being run with the generous support of Varuna Writers House and Belong Blue Mountains so there is not cost to participants.
